New Hampshire 4, at Boston College 3 Boston University 9, at Mass Lowell 6 at Merrimack 6, Mass Amherst 2 Providence 4, at Northeastern 4 (NU wins SO, 1-0) Here's how the standings were affected: 1-4 Maine (73 pts) was idle, so BU (68), UNH (61), and NU (55) all gained on the Black Bears. All four teams have 5 games left. BU is one win off the pace. UNH remains within striking distance, and NU lost two points to UNH by only getting a SO win - the Huskies' 5th in 5 tries. Right now, SO points have produced an 8-point swing in favor of NU over UNH. The Huskies are 5-0 in SOs, and UNH is 0-3. If NU catches UNH in the standings, SOs will have played a significant part. 5-9 Merrimack (38) was the big winner. The Warriors were the only 5-9 team to win tonight and moved into a 6th place tie with Mass Lowell (38), two points behind BC (40). Providence (32) gained two points by tying NU and remains in 8th, and Mass Amherst (15) is 9th. BU-UML: didn't see it, but strange game. From the score updates we received, UML led 3-1 at one point, but BU scored 7 straight goals to go up 8-3. Then UML made it interesting with three more, until BU added the ENG. In three meetings this season between the teams, BU scored 25 goals to UML's 20 and recorded two wins and a SO win. Unusual for UML (or anyone!) to score 20 goals in 3 games vs BU and only come away with a tie this year - 2 points out of a possible 15. UMA-MC: Merrimack controlled all the way, getting two goals each from Matt Adams and Martin Laroche and two assists each from Casey Kesselring and converted forward John Jakopin. Martin Legault allowed two goals or less for his fourth straight game, stopping 32 of 34 shots. Last season, NU set the HE record for ties in a season with 6. As of now, Maine has 6, and 3 other teams have 5 - NU, Merrimack, and PC. Only meetings Saturday are UMA at Maine (Maine tv, WLBZ-2) and UML-UNH (WMUR-9). Sunday, Merrimack takes on Maine. --- --- Mike Machnik [log in to unmask] Cabletron Systems, Inc. *HMM* 11/13/93
