Before we begin the "Why is Masotta in there, he doesn't deserve to be" thread, let's lay it on the line. Masotta deserved to be in there. He played a great game against BC, and even if Tamburro were not injured, Masotta, for the sake of getting back on the ECAC trail, should have been in there. There, that's out of the way. Second, it will ultimately come out that perhaps the loss is Masotta's fault. In part, yes, for the soft goals. But that is only 1% of the reason why. 1% goes to the defense in front of Masotta. 1% goes to the offense non-generated by RPI. 97% goes to Head Coach Dan Fridgen. I am not a coach, but I totally disagreed with his juggling of the lines. The line-up for the past 3 games was: Matthews-Askew-Perardi Healey-Hamelin-Clarke Regan-Richardson-Brick Maye-O'Connor-Battaglia Askew gets a hip pointer and is out, so Chris Kiley is inserted into the lineup. Where does Kiley go? In my opinion, with 2 hot lines in the Hamelin and Richardson line, you replace Askew with O'Connor andput Kiley on line 4 to preserve the lineup that has worked effectively for the past 3 games. What happens? Matthews-Brick-Perardi Healey-Hamelin-Regan O'Connor-Richardson-Clarke Maye-Kiley-Battaglia Huh? ichardson looked lost all night trying to find someone to pass to. Hamelin did not click with Regan all night. Brick lost 95% of all faceoffs he was involved in, and all 3 lines were very uneffective. Power Play units were also disjointed, as the front lines are usually Regan-Richardson-Brick Clarke-Askew-Perardi We got: Regan-Richardson-Clarke O'Connor-Brick-Perardi Dan Fridgen also tried to match lines all throughout Period 1 and it did not work. Brian mentioned the faceoff losses. RPI won the first 5 faceoffs of the evening, and their best chances of the 1st period came then. Then they proceeded to lose the next 10 or so leading to Colgate scoring opportunities. Let's see if Dan Fridgen goes back to the lineups which gave him success in the previous 3 games against Cornell tonight. ***************************************************************************** * Jayson Moy RPI '89 '93 * One of the Voices of Rensselaer Engineer * * [log in to unmask] * Hockey, Baseball, Football, and Basketball * * The "Asian Invasion" * on Crystal Clear 91.5FM WRPI, Troy *EASM* * *****************************************************************************
