Two sets of numbers that really jumped out at me that I wonder if someone (or anyone) who follows HE could clarify: >TEAM PENALTY MINUTES > HOCKEY EAST OVERALL >TEAM GP PEN/PIM PIM/GM RANK || GP PEN/PIM PIM/GM RANK >Boston College 15 145/321 21.40 4 || 23 218/467 20.30 5 >Boston University 15 158/366 24.40 1 || 23 218/481 20.91 4 >Maine 15 105/213 14.20 9 || 28 190/391 13.96 9 >Mass Amherst 13 125/297 22.85 3 || 21 200/451 21.48 t2 >Mass Lowell 13 145/315 24.23 2 || 25 268/580 23.20 1 >Merrimack 15 146/314 20.93 5 || 25 244/537 21.48 t2 >New Hampshire 13 105/218 16.77 8 || 23 181/386 16.78 8 >Northeastern 15 133/301 20.07 6 || 23 206/458 19.91 6 >Providence 14 127/255 18.21 7 || 24 222/457 19.04 7 >POWER PLAY >RK TEAM HOCKEY EAST || OVERALL >1 Maine 28 of 87 32.2 || 51 of 171 29.8 >2 New Hampshire 21 of 69 30.4 || 27 of 118 22.9 >3 Mass Lowell 28 of 94 30.1 || 47 of 174 27.0 >4 Providence 25 of 93 26.9 || 34 of 149 22.8 >5 Boston University 23 of 122 22.1 || 41 of 151 27.2 >6 Merrimack 16 of 74 21.6 || 22 of 123 17.9 >7 Boston College 19 of 93 20.4 || 27 of 146 18.5 > Northeastern 19 of 93 20.4 || 31 of 149 19.5 >9 Mass Amherst 5 of 71 7.0 || 10 of 124 8.1 Is it just me, or does anyone else find it somewhat weird that a team leads the conference in penalty minutes (and thus shorthanded situations) and has such a HUGE gap over anyone else in the conference in terms of power play oppor- tunities? (I'm looking at conference numbers only.) Can someone clarify what kind of penalties BU usually draws from the opponents? Usually IMO when one team is faster than another, you'll see a lot of holds, hooks, trips, etc. (the "non-violent" penalties) vs. cross-checks and roughs (the "violent" ones). Another number that jumped out (with a little subtraction on my part): Maine and Lowell have had almost as many power plays in non-conference games as they have in conference, while BU has drawn relatively few in its non-conference action. But if you look at it, if the numbers are correct, BU is 18-29 on non-conference power plays, for a 62% success ratio. Does that sound about right? If so, it's phenomenal. G. M. Finniss Michigan State University 11-3-2, 16-6-2 WVU '87, UTenn '92, MSU (the Cardiac Kids strike again. This time, Garavaglia hits the game winner with :07 on the clock to lead MSU over Minnesota, 54-53. Three of their last four wins at Breslin have come on last-second shots.) who the hell knows when?
