The latest Drop the Puck has a blurb about the shuffling of the time of the DivI championship game, which will be played at 1:30 pm ET on the first afternoon in April - a departure from past seasons. ESPN, which televises the game live, has also acquired the rights to the women's basketball final four (starting in 1996, I believe). This year, the hockey championship game will go head to head with the women's hoop semifinals. In past years, the game has been up against the men's hoop semis in its old Saturday evening time slot. The end result is that the hockey championship game will remain an afternoon affair, slated for 2 pm ET in 1996 in Cincinnati (according to recent posts here). ESPN has decided to juggle the times of the women's hoop games instead, DtP says. According to DtP, this should meet with approval from the college hockey glitterati, as a poll conducted by the ECAC's Joe Bertagna shows that a majority of the coaches preferred keeping the setup as it is. No word on whether the afternoon switch this year was made in an attempt to prolong the life of the NC$$ Championship Trophy, which went for a swim in the hotel pool in the wee hours of the morning following last year's win by LSSU in St Paul. :-) --- --- Mike Machnik [log in to unmask] Cabletron Systems, Inc. *HMM* 11/13/93
