I thought the Lowell folks on the list would be interested to learn that former Lowell Chief/Riverhawk Kerry Angus has signed a pro contract with a team in the Netherlands and will forego playing the rest of this season at UAH. Apparently, Angus is trying to go to law school next year and wanted to save up some cash for that. UAH will miss Angus. He had started the season as one of the top blue-liners but with the return of Steve Borko (from an injury, I believe), Angus had seen decreasing playing time and had not dressed for one or two of the last four or five games. HOwever, another of UAH's blueliners (Taso Safikitos) was carried off the ice on a stretcher in the second game against Middlebury and may miss several weeks. UAH also is missing forward Brian Richard, one of the team's leading scorers and probably one of the most-penalized players in Division II (many of his penalties are of the 10 minute variety for being lippy with the refs). Richard was kicked off the team before Christmas for repeated violations of team rules. The type of violations were not specified in the newspaper. The series against Middlebury was a very physical one. I heard that Middlebury's previous game against Norwich was terminated early due to a brawl, and while they had no fights or brawls here, they did play a very tough game and there was a constant tension which seemed like it could turn into a fight at any moment. The defenseman who was carried off the ice on a stretcher appeared to be a target of Middlebury all night, and had received a number of slashes in the legs and several physical checks, again to the legs. I was surprised to see him be a target of Middlebury because he hasn't appeared to engage in much stickwork or other cheap stuff, in fact he's always seemed to me to be one of the less-physical players for UAH.
