BU hosted a team that was wearing the Vermont unifroms tonight, but I have no idea who they were. BU totally dominated the game outshooting the Pseudo-Cats 34 to 12 and outscoring them 11 to 1. I was very pleased to see BU score 11 goals and only give up 1, but I was expecting a hockey game, not a hockey school clinc. Martin St. Louis and Eric Perrin (or two impostors wearing their jerseys) made a few nice plays, but they looked nothing like the best players in the ECAC. Tim Thomas (or his impostor) played very poorly, flopping around on the ice like a fish out of water. He was replaced in the third by Jon Miyamoto, who gave up 5 goals on 9 shots as the Terriers had their way with the Pseudo-Cats in the third period. The Pseudo-Cats got a goal midway through the third, but it was much too little much too late. With Derek Herlofsky injured and out for 2-4 weeks with a cut to his thigh, Tom Noble became BU's #1 goalie, but he faced very littel pressure in the first as UVM only had 2 shots on net. In the second in was tested slightly more as the Pseudo-Cats put 5 shots on net. After giving up the goal in the third Tom was replaced by his backup Shawn Ferullo, who stopped the few saves he faced. As if Derek's injury in practice was not bad enough, Jon Coleman was injured in the first period and did not play the rest of the game. I have not seen my tape of the broadcast, so I do not know how serious his injury is. I do know that BU is having a string of bad luck as Shane Johnson was injured in LA two weeks ago and both Derek and Jon were injured this week. The good news(?) is the game versus Dartmouth on Saturday is BU's last game until the Mariucci Classic on the 30 and 31 in 3 and a half weeks. After a poor weekend against Maine (1g, 1a in 2 games) Mike Grier got 2 goals and 1 assist tonight and both goals were even strength. He know has 17 goals and 10 assits in 14 games. He *will* be missed at the Mariucci Classic, both by his teammates and by the fans, who will miss seeing a very exciting player. BU's invisible captain Jaques Joubert (0g, 0a against Maine in 3 games) finally scored in tonight's goalfest. I would like to say something good about Vermont, but I can not as it was very ugly for the Catamounts. I am not even sure if it is a plus or a minus that this was their final game before the holiday break. They will not play again for 3 and a half weeks in the Auld Lang Syne Tournament at Dartmouth. In any case Vermont is my second favorite team in DivI and I wish them the best the rest of the season. Go Cats Go! A final note, it was announced that UNH beat Harvard 5-2 at Bright Arena tonight. That makes this year's inter-league games ECAC 12, HE 11 (and closing fast). Sean Pickett Go BU Terriers, 1994 Hockey East Champions! [log in to unmask]
