FINN IS FLYING NOW
GERMANS PROVIDE LITTLE RESISTANCE

For Veli-Pekka Nutikka, the goals are a bonus. It's the extra
ice time he's enjoying most of all.
Nutikka was basically a fourth line forward when Finland began
its training camp for the world junior hockey championship.
Now, after scoring a pair of goals in each of the last two games,
Nutikka has moved up to the third line and also worked on the penalty
killing unit during Finland's 7-1 victory Thursday over Germany at the
Wetaskiwin Arena...
Finland had to basically fight for its life against Germany, which
took 14 of 23 minors...
Martti Jarventie, Jussi Tarvainen, Tommi Rajamaki, Team captain
Janne Niinimaa and Juha Vuorivirta completed the scoring for Finland
while Tommi Miettinen picked up three assists.
Germany opened the scoring when Erich Goldmann scored just after
the first penalty in a 5x3 power play...Germany had to phone home to find
a backup goalie after Thursday's starter Stephen Lahn reinjured his knee
ligaments midway through the first.
