In hindsight the "obvious" answer is to stick with Mike Tamburro in the nets instead of Masotta. But I disagree. Why is everyone looking for a number 1 goaltender? There is no need in college hockey for a number 1 goaltender. Granted in some case, there is a solid number 1 goaltender. Some examples: lets' take 93-94 Roloson at Lowell Ram at Michigan Tech Lacher at Lake St. Buzak at MSU But then there are tandems that do well lets take 93-94 Tracy and Israel at Harvard Moen and Callinan at Minnesota Heinke and Cavicchi at UNH Herlofsky and McKersie at BU For everyone who says a number 1, there is another says a tandem. Why is the argument that there should be a number 1 goalie? In the pros I can see it. In college hockey, with development being the focus, why not the tandem? Dan Fridgen told me before the season began that he was treating his golatenders Tamburro and Masotta as numbers 1 and 1a (in no particular order, though of course, 1 and 1a shouldn't have an order). I still believe that to this day. If you can get the seasoning that everyone is asking for in Masotta, and the seasoning and experience of Tamburro, why can this not work? This has turned from a why did RPI lose to Princeton, it shouldn't have happened thread, into a why was Masotta starting thread, and now into a Masotta should not se ice time at all thread. it shouldn't be that, it should be that RPI has problems with the entire team, what will be done to rectify them. The goaltending in my opinion is not a problem. It is an overall team attitude and adjustment that needs to be made. Please let this be the end of these threads. ***************************************************************************** * Jayson Moy RPI '89 '93 * One of the Voices of Rensselaer Engineer * * [log in to unmask] * Hockey, Baseball, Football, and Basketball * * The "Asian Invasion" * on Crystal Clear 91.5FM WRPI, Troy *EASM* * *****************************************************************************
