As an all the time lurker and infrequent poster on hockey-l, I have been
motivated to comment on Jayson's and Kurt's remarks.
 
I was the 'other' member of the WRPI radio crew at Princeton that thought
starting Masotta was a mistake.  However, I think it was a mistake also
from the 5-0 streak standpoint.
 
Good teams play well even against lower compettion, injuries, and off nights.
It's the ability to triumph over this that separates the so-so teams from
the league elite. In RPI's case, they are a so-so team that was playing
through several key injuries as well as alot of pressure to continue the
winning streak and take a 6-0 record into the break.
 
Enter the decision to start Masotta. IMHO, Tamburro gets the start without
a doubt.  He was the best rated goalie in the ECAC, and the team was
confident and winning in front of him.  No technical explanation
necessary. No psychological evaluations needed.  The bottom line is winning,
get to the dance.  Tamburro was geting it done, and for some reason the
team was getting it done in front of him.
 
I am in agreement with Jay, RPI was horrible and Priceton played well and
they obviously deserved the win. I also agree with Kurt in that no
goaltender could have won the game as Masotta saw it.  WRPI had the press
seat right behind Masotta in the 2nd, and we saw every painful defensive
mistake.
