Clarkson goalie Dan Murphy looked shaky. Clarkson caught a break when, on a delayed penalty on the golden Knights, a SLU shot from the point was mishandled by Murphy and went across the goal line but the referee blew the whistle prematurely (assuming Murphy was going to control it). The first SLU goal was on a bad giveaway. Murphy went behind the net to stop a bouncing puck but the SLU forward Burke Murphy got there first and centered it to Ladouceur who put it ni the open net. SLU's 2nd goal came on a pure slap shot from the right wing, but at a tough angle. 2nd pd: SLU totally fell apart. Whatever Clarkson coach Mark Morris said in the dressing room musta worked. CLarkson got an early PP but only got :24 of it when a penalty on them was called. It turned out to be a blessing since Clarkson scored a pair of quick goals; the Knights have done obscenely well on 4-on-4's this year. The score stayed 3-2 for about 7 minutes after that when Marko Tuomainen made it 4-2. Then Clarkson scored 4 goals in exactly 3 minutes to blow the game open. SLU could not for the life of them clear the zone. Clarkson missed on several good chances and SLU goalie Clint Owen (and later Jon Bracco) made a few nice saves preventing double digits. 3rd pd: Also owned by Clarkson, although with less dramatic results. SLU's best defensive plays in the last period and a half seemed to be to ice the puck. Clarkson improves to 7-3-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the ECAC. They've averaged 5.7 goals per game and 6.8 GF in ECAC contests. They've scored at least 6 goals in 5 of their last 6 games (in which they've averaged a total of 7.5 GF). Clarkson has also averaged 9.25 GF in their last 4 ECAC games. The win was Clarkson's 8th straight against the Skating Saints. After winning the 1992 ECAC title, a van of SLU students drove through the Clarkson campus with a "1992 ECAC Champions" banner and generally screaming and hollering and otherwise reminding us who won the previous day.
