PORTLAND, Maine (AP) -- An unassisted goal by Brad Purdie at 4:22 of the third period proved to be the game-winner as Maine edged New Hampshire 4-3 in a Hockey East game Friday at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Purdie's goal came 34 seconds after Carey Cash scored for New Hampshire to trim Maine's lead to 3-2. The Wildcats closed out the scoring with an Eric Nickulas goal at 11:14. The Black Bears (4-0-2, 1-0-2) grabbed a 2-0 lead on first-period goals by Tony Frenette and Wayne Conlan. Dean Woodman put New Hampshire (3-2, 0-1-0) on the board at 13:00 of the second period, but Barry Clukey scored at 19:33 to restore Maine's two-goal lead. New Hampshire goalie Mike Heinke had 27 saves, and Maine's Blair Allison had 25 saves. The game was the first of four UNH home games being played at the Civic Center because of renovations to Snively Arena. |--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--| | Lynn Burke Newport News, Va. | |--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|
