INGLEWOOD, Calif. -- Defenseman Dave MacIsaac's goal with 23.3 seconds remaining in regulation brought the University of Maine Black Bears back from a one-goal deficit against the Boston University Terriers to send Sunday's Great Western Freezeout final to overtime, where Dan Shermerhorn scored to extend Maine's unbeaten streak to 13 games. Maine has won all three Great Western Freezeouts it has appeared in, beating the University of Calgary during the 1991-92 season and Lake Superior State during the 1992-93 season. MacIsaac's game-tieing goal came after Maine squandered a 6-on-4 advantage after pulling goaltender Blair Allison with less than a minute remaining in the game while on a power play. BU goaltender Derek Herlofsky had stopped a Jacques Rodrigue shot from the blue line, but was unable to grab the rebound while on his knees when MacIsaac pushed it into the net. In overtime, BU defenseman Chris Kelleher lost control of the puck in front of the BU net, allowing Dan Shermerhorn to skate in and shoot the puck over Herlofsky's shoulder to give Maine the win. Maine is now 10-0-3 overall while BU is now 7-2-2. The two teams will meet again Friday and Saturday at Maine's Harold Alfond Sports Arena in Orono. _____________________________________________________________________ Ryan Robbins "Nothing in fine print is ever good news."
