Oops, I had college list not hockey list, no wonder it got returned. --------------------- Forwarded message: Subj: FreezeOut Report Date: 94-11-26 21:01:23 EST From: Hockyjunky To: [log in to unmask] Hi everyone. Lovely Prodigy bounced my FreezeOut reports when I sent them in. Here is my second attempt to get them posted on the list (through AOL this time). Sorry, it took so long, hope they make it to the list, Sandi Subject: FreezeOut Report In case no one has posted anything on the FreezeOut in LA, here are some notes. Maine beat Notre Dame 4-1 in the first game. Scoring (from official score sheet) was First; 19:27 Maine, Shermerhorn from Mansoff. Second: None. Third: 8:37 ND, Andrusiak, Ling 9:37 Maine, Wansborough, Purdie, Mansoff 16:04 Parmentier, Lovell. 19:52 Maine Cardinal, Purdie. All goals were even strength, No attd. was announced. I thought ND played fairly well against Maine in the first two periods. If they had production on the PP, they may have been ahead going into the third. They missed a lot of opportunities on the advantage. I also thought Maine looked like they were tired or were saving their energy for the possible game against BU Sunday. There were plenty of Maine and ND fans in the stands. In the second game BU beat Princeton 6-2. I didn't wait around for the official scoring sheet (It is a two hour drive home), but here is the scoring summary and I imgine it is accurate. First period 1:48 BU Kelleher, Thorton, Kealty. Kelleher put the first shot of the game in, to get the Terriers rolling. at 2:43 Princeton's OBrien drilled Shane Johnson from behind, head first into the boards. OBrien got a 5min checking from behind and a game misconduct. Johnson left the game injured (shoulder) and didn't return. I saw him on the TV monitor later so maybe someone that saw the interview can fill us in on his injury.BU scored once on the 5m PP, at 3:24 Joubert, Brennan, Kelleher. It was a textbook 1-2-3 passing set up, and Joubert put it in.There were some penalties that made it 4 on 4, then BU was up 4 on 3 for awhile too. It seemed like Princeton came out with their sticks up and at one time had 3 players in the box. 14:58 BU Prendergast, Coleman, Rausch. Coleman carried the puck around behind the net and passed it across the crease to Prendergast, who shot it in as he was knocked to the ice. With only :31 left on the clock, Princeton's Colohoun knocked Greir down, trying to draw him into a scuffle, Grier skated away and Colohoun got 2m for rough and a 10m miscon. I thought Grier showed real maturity in skating away. End of 1st, BU had 3 on 12 shots and Princeton scored 0 on 6. Second period: Tigers scored at 1:48 Pelle, Bois, Brown. 5:37 BU Joubert, Linna, Coleman. Linna blasted a slap shot from the point and Joubert walked in behind Princeton's goalie, easily putting it in the net. Kind of typical Joubert-capitalizing on the other team's error. Very nice. There was a lot of 5 on 5 as Princeton finally tried to play hockey. The rest of the period was mostly even strength as both team were drawing penalties together, but at times it seemed BU was on the PP as they out played the Tigers. The second ended with BU 4 goals on 24 shots and Princeton 1 on 13. Prendergast had three breakaways showing great hustle. Third Period started with a Tiger's goal. 4:48 Princeton Kelly, Colohoun, Granaldi. The Tigers skated it in nicely, set up the screen on Noble and Kelly put it in five hole. 7:55 BU Pierce unasstd. He picked off a clearing pass, faked a slap shot, skated in, went to the backhand, deked about three times, then went to the forehand to top shelf it. I think he used every move he knew, but it worked. =) 9:31 OSullivan, Coleman, Linna. This was another textbook set up, two one timer passes to OSullivan who five holed it, on a one timer also. That made it 6-3 which was the final with BU outshooting the Tigers 26-21. see the next note for more details. I am not on the list, so email or cc me with your comments/replies, Sandi Trudo GO BU, #1 OSullivan fan ([log in to unmask]) GO BU!! Subject: More FreezeOut Report Here are the rest of my notes/comments from the FreezeOut Noble looked ok in net, but let me tell you, this guy has luck. There were numerous times that Princeton could have capatalized on his mistakes, but they didn't or hit the post or shot wide. I think BU would be in trouble if he played like that against NU or Minn. or teams that can make better use of mistakes. Konte played well considering Princeton's overall lack of D. He faced many odd man rushes and screens, and Princeton hardly cleared any rebounds out for him. I was disappointed by the way Princeton came out with their sticks up. It was almost as if they were admitting they knew they couldn't beat BU, and figured they may as well leave their mark (literally) on the Terriers. That hit on Johnson was pretty bad. In the second, they settled down and it was a better game. Grier showed great restraint in not letting the Tigers draw him into shoving matches three or four times. He was even knocked to the ground, after skating away from a shove...but didn't retaliate and BU got the PP. OSullivan seemed a bit testy though, and was in a few good shoving matches. There have been a lot of comments about BU's power play lately. I think only one goal on a 5m PP isn't very productive. My opinion on BU's power play is that they spend way too much time passing and looking for the perfect shot. They need to shoot more. You can't score if you don't shoot. BU did have some very nice set ups, and the passing was effective..but they kept passing too long which allowed Princeton enough time to pick it off and clear. Princeton used the dump and chase style of PP, which was probably their best bet against BU. The Terriers D looked fairly solid, and a few players looked especially good. Prendergast had a ton of breakaways (too bad he couldn't score on them) He definately had the most hustle and gets the "pick off" award. Coleman was very good at creating opportunities around and from behind the net. I think his set ups were responsible for several of the Terriers goals. Noble faced a few two on ones and was able to make some big saves. Now two guys Kealty and Pierce caught my eye. Parker played them both, esp. Kealty, quite a bit. I am not familiar with these two and would appreciate some info/opinion on them for tommorrow's game. After Bates' great game last week, I expected more out of him than what I saw. Kelleher looked good, and seemed to be the one Dman willing to throw his body down to block shots or take the extra step to keep the puck in on the PP. For Princeton, I think Pelle must have skated every shift, poor guy was constantly on the ice. There wasn't too much checking, I thought the ND/Maine game was a lot rougher, especially in the third. I thought ND played well, and with a little work on their PP they'd be a lot stronger. They also had a lot of big, and tall players that hit hard. That makes them fun to watch. There were plenty of Maine and ND fans on hand. The ND fans were the loudest, most vocal and the funniest. Princeton had a few fans and BU had a ton =). One BU student even had brought his cow bell, he gave up on getting the crowd going after about his third attempt (he looked disappointed). I think he is the one that gets everyone going at the BU arena. It was pretty quiet, and for some reason the music guy didn't play any songs during the stoppage in play during the BU game. It just ain't college hockey without the noise =( Sandi Trudo #1 OSullivan fan, GO BU!!!! (please cc me a copy of any comments or replies on the FreezeOut [log in to unmask])
