  In NHL (remember them?) lingo: Colorado College has two "games in
hand" over Minnesota and three "games in hand" over Wisconsin.  What they
do with those two games is yet to be determined.  If they lose them,
then this advantage becomes nullified. If they win both then they
are leading the conference.  Colorado College is control of their own
(early season ;-)) destiny.
 
In the end, since all the teams in league will play the same number
of games this points per game is really just winning% x 2 (as pointed
out earlier, sorry I forgot who).  At that point, the points and points
per game should tell the same story.  So why not just report win% and league
points?
