Taras Lendzyk picked up his fourth career shutout, breaking a school record held by Lendzyk(92- ), Rick Kosti(83-85), and my high school physical education teacher Bill Halbrehder(61-65), on Saturday night as the Bulldogs swept their first series since March 12-13, 1993 against the Seawolves. UAA has been the victim of 3 of the last 6 sweeps the Dogs have completed. The Dogs had a very good weekend. Friday's come from behind in the third period win was one of the best I have seen, and Saturday's win was close to as exciting as Friday's. The Bulldogs thoroughly outplayed Anchorage from about halfway through the 2nd period of Friday's game until the end of the weekend. UAA goalie Lee Schill notched 94 saves, but unfortunately for him, his teammates didn't come close to the 100 shots taken by the Dogs this weekend, but he did a very good job keeping UAA in the games. The game was the lowest scoring in UAA's 479 game history; there had been at least three goals in every Anchorage outing. The Bulldogs lost to Princeton in 1980 1-0 in OT for their lowest scoring game ever. About 5 minutes into the third, UAA defenseman Todd Bethard hit the post on a fairly empty net and just a few seconds later Paul Williams and Troy Norcross came on a 2-on-1. Williams drew Lendzyk out, passed off and Norcross' shot at an empty net was somehow stopped by Lendzyk's toe. Next Saturday night's game vs. Wisconsin will be the first WCHA game shown on a national cable network, ESPN2. WCHA commissioner Bruce McLeod has been working with ESPN to televise league games on ESPN or ESPN2 during the NHL lockout.
