We all know, Im sure, about the 'squid squad' that likes to plague Joe Louis
Arena during the Detroit Red Wings home games by throwing octupi (?) onto the
ice.

Im curious to know if there are similar tradiotions at other arenas around the
college/minor league arenas. If so let me know...Id like to hear about these
"traditions" (both past and present). Im contemplating starting one up here
in Knoxville for both the Knoxville Cherokees (ECHL) and even the Univ. of
Tenn. hockey team (yes, there really is one here!)

Ive heard of one waaaay back in the WHA with the Cincinnati Stingers and a
rubber chicken...The guy that did the chicken bit for the Stingers now lives
here in Knoxville...he often wears his old Stingers jersey to the Cherokee
games.

I know a couple of years back some div II/III (?) team's fans would throw
anything and everything onto the ice. I think it was the Univ. of Dayton, or
some team like that...I may be wrong. I even remember they arrested a few
for ignoring an order placed on them by the univ. that they NOT throw anything
onto the ice (some objects included toilet paper and items of that nature).
The univ even contemplating closing the future games left in the season to the
public to insure no objects from the stands would end up on the ice.

What a way to support your team!!!! =)
A rubber chicken...hmmmm.....
