Loges is no Shields, but he played decently. He played as well as the team, and the team didn't play too well. The defense wasn't there clearing out the pucks. In the first period, I believe, a defenseman for michigan shot it out of the zone only to be intercepted by a CC forward right in the slot. He scored -- no surprise. Also, the scoring just wasn't there when michigan needed it -- Knuble didn't play any part of the game, I think, and no one relaly picked up the slack. But, if the defensive effort was there miuchigan probably could have pulled it out with only 4 goals against CC. Unfortunately, from what I hear in the stands, Shields is a bigger legend after his college playing career than during. "Shields would have stopped that," etc. etc. Loges isn't bad -- He's average to above average. Soem of the goals he didn't move on, but most of those were toward hte end when it didn't matter anyway. If the defense was there, though, things would havbe been different. I think Red made the right move giving Willis the "c" this year. He's the inspirational one effort wise for the team this year. Yesterday, from the 2nd period on, M chigan looked dead, but Willis never did. Also, a referee type question: There was a skirmish last night and the CC play got "a 5 minute major for roughing" and the Michigan player got "a 5 minute major from checking from behind." What the hell are these calls? I can see the latter one, but the 5 minute roughing major? And, neither player was kicked out.
