Shots on goal: UAA: 41 ST.C: 25 Goals: UAA: 2-2-1 5 ST.C: 1-0-2 3 Power Play: UAA: 4/8 ST.C: 1/7 This was just not the outcome that I expected after the St. Cloud State Huskies came out and scored in less then 20 seconds into the game. Things brightened a little bit when the Seawolves returned immediately with five or six good quality shots within the next minute, but then dimmed when the Wolves were called for a five minute major. In afterthought, that could be said to have been a blessing in disguise; First UAA was called on a five minute major for checking from behind, followed by a minor after four more minutes, and another minor AS that one expired...over eight minutes of penalty killing, with a minute of that being 3-5. However, this ended up being a huge confidence builder for the Wolves as not only did they hold the mighty Huskies scoreless throughout, but returned to score two of their own goals before the period ended. The Huskies defense looks to need a little bit of work as it was continuely braking down and UAA was able to get quality shot after quality shot on freshman Brian Leitza. On the contrary, UAA played much better defense then last weekend against Fairbanks, but Goalie Lee Schill did come up with the saves when called upon :) The Seawolves definitely slowed down in the third, and the Huskies bumped it up a notch to try and gain some momentum. Saint Cloud scored their second goal of the night, a power play goal, about half way into the period, and their third at full strength shortly thereafter. However, UAA sealed the win with less then two minutes to go... UAA had the advantage tonight of playing two games last weekend, while this was the Huskies' season opener. Though the Seawolves played hard, and deserved the win, but if St. Cloud can come out tomorrow and play like they started playing in the third period tonight, the Wolves are DEFINITELY going to have their work come out for them. St. Cloud is fast, has several good plays, and they can hit hard. It ought to be quite a night... :)
