It's funny that John Tiano's name just came up because I was thinking about him yesterday. This is because of an earlier message where someone (I forget who) stated that they did not think that Adam Oates would have won the Hobey Baker Award if he had stayed at RPI an extra year. This made me think about who centered John Carter and Mark Jooris in the absense of Oates in 85-86. Tiano came to mind, but I don't think it was him. Was it Bill Kopecky who transferred from BC perhaps? Obviously, the question of whether Oates would have won the award is unanswerable at this time. John Tiano did transfer from BU and played for two years (84-85 and 85-86) at RPI. The first year he played on what would probably be called RPI's second scoring line with George Servinis and Bob DiPronio. (Interestingly, I just saw Servinis's name in The Hockey News as an unprotected player an the (recently cancelled) NHL waiver draft. He is apparently still Dallas property.) I don't recall on what line he played in 85-86. He was definitely drafted by an NHL team -- I think the Devils -- but never played in either the NHL or the minors. An interesting question is how come Tiano, Kopecky and a few others were allowed to play for RPI after transferring without having to sit out a year.
