...the major headline of the sports section in the state's largest newspaper reads: Local Dentist Croquet King! You also know its getting bad out there when inside the article it is announced that ESPN was actually on hand to tape the event for future broadcast! Yes, there is a reason I am posting this here: Perhaps (I know it hasn't worked all that well in the past) if a large number of college hockey fans lobbied ESPN and other networks to carry college hockey rather than croquet tournaments and lumberjack festivals (I'm not making that up, to borrow a line from Dave Barry) with baseball on strike and the NHL and (perhaps) the NBA about to shut down their seasons. If the NHL isn't smart enough to capitalize on their new national TV contracts at a time when the only major sport on the dial is football, and thats only 3 days a week, then maybe those venerable people at the NC$$ can work something out to get more coverage for college hockey...certainly hockey would get better ratings than 2 hours of watching a man and his axe or a bunch of people playing croquet. (No offense intended towards any lumberjacks or croquet-o-philes in the reading audience) John Forsyth PS: regarding Hobey-Baker award winners, David Emma went to Boston College, not Harvard
