Tuesday, August 23, 1994 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SCOTT WHITE NAMED ASSISTANT HOCKEY COACH AT MTU Ex-MTU Defenseman Excited About Opportunity Houghton, Mich. -- Scott White, who was a standout defenseman for Michigan Tech from 1985-89, has been named assistant hockey coach at MTU. The announcement came today from Bob Mancini, head hockey coach. "I can't tell you how excited I am to have Scott White at Michigan Tech," said Mancini. "It's been four years of not having an alum as part of the hockey coaching staff and I'm pleased that streak has come to an end. Scott will do an excellent job for Michigan Tech hockey and is very committed to being a part of getting this program back where it belongs." White has spent the last five years playing professional hockey. He started his post-MTU career competing in Bergen, Norway, for Division I Bergen/Djerv in 1989-90. Later that year, he moved on to the East Coast Hockey League where he helped the Greensboro Monarchs to the ECHL Playoff Championship. During the '90-91 campaign, White spent time with the Kansas City Blades of the International Hockey League, the Kalamazoo Wings (also an IHL team), and with Greensboro. During '91-92, the Ormstown, Quebec, native played the entire year for Greensboro, where he earned All-ECHL First-Team honors and was also named the league's best defenseman. During the summer of 1992, White signed a free agent contract with the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League. He spent the '92-93 campaign with the New Haven Senators of the American Hockey League where he earned team MVP honors. During '93-94, White played for the Prince Edward Island Senators of the AHL and the Salt Lake City Golden Eagles of the IHL, before finishing the year with Greensboro. "I had some great experiences in professional hockey," said White, "however, it's time to move on. I'm very excited to be back in Houghton and I look forward to the challenge ahead." White is married to the former Kathryn Short of Greensboro, N.C. The couple have two daughters, Emily, 11, and Katie, 6, and are expecting their third child in December. # # # # #
