Here's the item from today's (6/8/94) St. Paul Pioneer Press's "Quick Hits" section: CC gets 1-year hockey probation Colorado College on Tuesday was reprimanded and put on probation for one year by the NCAA for allowing a junior college goaltender to practice with the school's ice hockey team. David Swank, chairman of the NCAA's committee on infractions, called the case "relatively simple" and commended Colorado College officials for reporting the violations as soon as they were aware of them. The probation will not affect the school's post-season competition, Swank said. On Jan. 20, 1993, CC hockey coach Brad Buetow allowed goaltender Jason Jiskra of North Dakota State-Bottineau to practice with the team in violation of NCAA rules. After a 12-day investigation by the CC athletic board, the college reported the violation to the NCAA. Buetow resigned under pressure on Feb. 3, 1993, effective at the end of the 1992-93 season, and was replaced by Don Lucia, who led the Tigers to the 1993-94 regular-season Western Collegiate Hockey Association Championship. Colorado College is an NCAA Division III school but competes at the Division I level in men's ice hockey. <end quoted material> so, if it doesn't affect post-season play, just what DOES the probation affect? (Of course, one could say they were effectively withheld from post-season play last year, but maybe I shouldn't get cdash all stirred up again!) Pam Sweeney Go Gophers!!!
