From: Mike Machnik <[log in to unmask]> Subject: Re: Shootouts Probable for Hockey East [snip] Of course, who knows if the group of people in St Paul was an accurate cross-section of hockey fans; I don't even think HOCKEY-L is. And perhaps Shawn's argument is that when the fans get to actually see a shootout, they will find it exciting and it will lure them back to future games. But I would point to the reaction of people after the gold medal shootout. True, everyone thought it was exciting; but most were disappointed that a game, let alone a gold medal, was decided in that fashion. --- --- Mike Machnik [log in to unmask] Cabletron Systems, Inc. *HMM* 11/13/93 ===================================================================== While I still prefer moving to a ten minute OT, if we in fact do go to a shootout, one hopes that it will never be used in any sort of post-season play. I don't really follow professional hockey much, but friends of mine who do seem to be in favor of adding a shootout for the regular season, but keeping it out of the playoffs. Maybe the NCAA will follow these guidelines. (Notice that I said NCAA - if only one or two conferences are into it, then it shouldn't be anywhere......) ************************************************************************** Steve Weisfeldt Go Chiefs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
