The Brown University Annual Hockey Banquet was held last Saturday at the Sheraton Tara Hotel in Warwick, Rhode Island. The event was sponsored by the Brown Hockey Association. In attendance were the members of the 1993-94 hockey team, coaches, faculty, parents, alumni and friends of Brown. Jim Bennett'79, a former All-Ivy player at Brown, was the toastmaster. The following awards were presented: THE CHARLES A. ROBINSON,Jr MEMORIAL TROPHY FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE went to All-ECAC and All-Ivy goaltender Geoff Finch. Geoff is about to sign a contract with the Dallas organization, but plans to attend medical school in the future. THE CHARLES A. LANIGAN MEMORIAL TROPHY, given to the player who has shown the most improvement during his varsity career, went to Mark Shaughnessy. Mark, who didn't play as a freshman due to an injury, was a right wing until he was changed to defense halfway through his junior year. He turned into a dependable defenseman, and was one of Brown's most consistent players this past season. THE PATRICK JONES MEMORIAL TROPHY, given to the player who generates the most spark and enthusiasm in building team spirit, went to Co-Captain Kelly Jones, an All-Ivy forward. THE CLASS OF 1936 HOCKEY TROPHY (MVP) went, as expected, to Geoff Finch. Mike Traggio has been chosen captain of the 1994-95 Brown hockey team. He is expected to lead a solid Brown defensive corps. Mike was named the best defensive defenseman in the ECAC this past season. He also holds the distinction of being the player most penalized by referee Pierre Belanger. With everyone's favorite official probably not being allowed to work Brown games any more, Mike will finally be able to display his talents without fear of persecution. As every event sponsored by the Brown Hockey Association, the 1993-94 Annual Dinner was a great deal of fun, and, as Coach Bob Gaudet put it, a "family affair." Luiz F. Valente
