With all due respect, one must look at the funding a band like
the one at University of Wisconsin gets and the funding the, as
PA hockey announcer Jim Prior calls them, a-Boston a-University
a-Band gets.

Something tells me that the Wisconsin band, which supports
a major hockey team, a major basketball team (I think) and
definately a major football, gets a whole lot of funding from
alumni, the school, and other sources.

Something also tells me that the Boston University band, which
supports a major hockey team, a crappy basketball team, and a
Division I-AA football team that just had it's first successful
season in a while, gets much less funding. It took a letter to John Silber,
Boston U. presiden from the B.U. Band President to get the University to send them
to the BU football playoff game in Idaho. (For those unaware,
Division I-AA football has a tournament playoff system, much
like hockey and basketball)

Yes, the Wisconsin band was smooth and flashy, but to tell you
the truth, I thought BU's scratchy, pounding, rocking version of
"Sunshine of Your Love" blows the polished version that Wisconsin
plays. Sunshine is a rock song!

Bottom line, BU hockey games would be down-right boring if
there wasn't a band to liven up the crowd. I believe, for
financial reasons, the BU band is able to reach it's potential.
