Bowling Green wins the first round series with a goal by Brian Holzinger in the first overtime. On the winning goal, the puck was in the corner when Holzinger and a defender skated in to get it. Those two bodies collided with two already in the corner and the man covering Brian was hit in the head and knocked down. Brian picked up the loose puck and skated across the goal mouth untouched. After a couple of moves, he was able to get Craig Lisko out of position and tickle the twine. Zinger had tied it up midway through the third when he was fed nicely by Sean Pronger on a short-handed 2-on-1 break. Brian shot it hard as Lisko tried to skate across the crease. I think Lisko even got a bit of his stick on it, but the shot was so hard it still went in. BG's first goal was on the power play, as Curtis Fry skated in on right wing and deposited the puck between Lisko and the near post. The Ferris offense had its troubles again tonight, as both of the goals it got were gifts from BG. Passarelli was the recipient of a "nice" pass right on his stick from one BG defenseman who was trying to pass across to his partner in the BG zone. He skated in alone, but Petrie made the initial save. Val was able to poke in the rebound, however. Christian's goal from along the goal line, as Petrie left a small gap between him and the post. The Ferris defense played well, blocking one-third of the 93 shots BG attempted. But Gruden again did not play much and was not effective when he was in there. Lisko was great in net again. Petrie was good except for the Christian goal, but he saved his best for the OT period when he stopped Christian several times from in close. The reffing was inconsistent and favored BG. But BG was the more offensively-skilled team, so you suspect the other team will have to take some extra penalties. So, BG makes it to the Joe for the second straight year. They could be anywhere from the 4th to 6th seed and could face MSU, WMU, Miami or UAF on Friday. See ya there.
