James Alexander brought up the point that Alaska to anywhere is so long that east versus central is a moot point. Well, that got me to thinking so I got out my trusty PCGLOBE program and stuck in Fairbanks as user defined (64.50N by 147.48W) - Anchorage was already in - and picked some cities. Distances on great circle routes can be deceptive. Origin Destination Miles Origin Destination Miles Anchorage Boston 3366 Fairbanks Boston 3246 Detroit 2972 Detroit 2893 Chicago 2846 Chicago 2787 Denver 2394 Denver 2421 Isn't that amazing? Fairbanks is closer to Boston, Detroit, and Chicago than is Anchorage! Of course, thats a direct line flight - God knows what the airlines choose. Anyway, the only point I would make is that if the WCHA can deal with UAA, then its no more difficult for the CCHA to deal with UAF. Actually, I would like to see both in the WCHA, but it will be an unconscionable shame if UAF isn't accorded the same courtesy as UAA by SOMEBODY!
