The University of Maine Black Bears scored three unanswered goals in less than two minutes late in the third period to beat the Merrimack Warriors 6-4 at Alfond Arena on the UMaine campus. Merrimack's Jim Gibson scored at 5:29 into the third period to tie the score 3-3 and Tom Johnson scored at the 10:42 mark into the period to put Merrimack ahead for the first time, 4-3. Less than five minutes later, though, Maine's Tim Lovell converted on a pass from Wayne Conlan to tie the score, setting the stage for the game winning goal 1:11 later by Mike Latendresse. Reg Cardinal scored 26 seconds later to seal the win for the Black Bears. Maine improves to 8-10-4 in Hockey East play and 13-15-4 overall while Merrimack falls to 6-15-2 and 14-18-2.
