Justin Tomberlin had three assists and two goals as the University
of Maine Black Bears defeated the Merrimack College Warriors at
Alfond Arena on the UMaine campus Saturday night. Teammate Wayne
Conlan added a hat trick as the Black Bears won 8-3.
 
Tomberlin had two assists in the first period and added one more
along with two goals in the third.
 
Conlan had a goal in each of the three periods. His third goal
came at the 8:28 mark into the third period when he slapped an
airborne puck away from a Merrimack defenseman at Merrimack's
blue line and skated in alone to slide it past goalie Martin
Legaultto make it 7-2 Maine.
 
Maine forwards fired at will when entering the defensive zone,
racking up 46 unofficial shots on goal to Merrimack's 19 shots
on goal. Maine had about 19 shots on goal in the second period
alone.
 
The win for Maine puts its Hockey East record at 7-10-4 and
overall record at 12-15-4, pending possible forfeits for the
30 games Patrice Tardif played in.
 
Merrimack drops to 6-14-2 in HE play and 14-17-2 overall.
