The Dutchmen clinched their first-ever ECAC Playoff spot with a 3-2 win over second-place Brown Friday night. I can't add much to what Philip Johnson from Brown posted, since I didn't see the game or even hear it on the radio. From the paper it sounds like Mike Gallant carried the team through some defensive problems (52 saves!). Union's winning goal came with less than 2 minutes left, resulting from a loose puck being hacked at in the crease by 3 Dutchmen players, with Chris Albert finally putting it past Geoff Finch. The Dutchmen extend their winning streak to 4 and their unbeaten streak to 6. Union remains in 7th place with an 8-9-2 league record, just 2 points behind Vermont. The win also assures Union of no worse than a .500 record in the regular season (12-9-3). Now that they are in the playoffs, they can shoot for home ice in the preliminary round - or even a bye in the preliminary round with the way they've been moving up in the standings. They will face a tough road game at ECAC leader Harvard tonight. But no matter what happens tonight, Union's weekend was already very successful. -- Jim Teresco, Department of Computer Science, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute [log in to unmask] (alternates: [log in to unmask], [log in to unmask]) Home: (518)347-0967, School: (518)276-4849, Sage 1112 Union College C.S.
