FIrst, let me say I am sorry to Ryan for the way I edited his post. He did not say the extra man was ok & I did not do a careful job of showing that. He was quoting the radio guy. Sorry Ryan, it was sloppy on my part. But that still doesn't answer the question: would the announcer (and Maine fans, in this case but it could be any school Maine fans are no diiferent then Mich, Mn or Miami) have been so ammused if it was their oppenent with the extra man? Did Walsh do it on purpose? Of course it is impossible to know, but would anybody have noticed if they only had 4 men out for an even strength faceoff? Yes. Would they have doen something about it? Yes. Is it just a little too convienient? Yes. Do I think Walsh did something any other college coach wouldn't do if he could? No. Sad to say but in my mind coaching has fallen into the same list with televangalists & used car salesmen -- guilty until proven innocent. An action is not wrong because the refs call it, it is wrong because it is against the rules. It is wrong if my favorite team does it or your favorite team does it. I do not expect officals to be perfect but I would like to think that everyone would want to win or lose on their best efforts on the field of play. I would like to think it would be uncomfortable to know you gained an unfair advantage, even if it were unintentional. Of course I would also like to believe that money isn't the ruler of all sports so maybe my ideas aren't valid. Maybe, someday, each coaching staff will have to hire a lawyer to look for loopholes in the rules. shouting against the wind, me ||| (0 0) -----------------------------ooO-(_)-Ooo--------------------------------- These opinions were packaged by volume, not by weight.
