First of all, John H., IMHO, I have to disagree with you on one point. I think all three of your boys at Michigan -- Shields, Wiseman and Oliver -- will become the first trio from the same team to become Hobey finalists. You are right, it hasn't happened before in one season. Secondly, in answer to a couple of other questions...no player has ever won the award back-to-back and Minnesota-Duluth (Kurvers in '84 and Watson in '85) and Maine (Pellerin in '92 and Kariya in '93) are the only two schools ever to have had back-to-back winners. Schools with the most finalists? North Dakota (9), Minnesota (9) and Michigan State (9), followed by Harvard, Maine and Boston College with 8 apiece, and Northern Michigan, Bowling Green and Providence with 7 each. The only two players who were finalists in three different seasons were Nelson Emerson of Bowling Green (88-89-90) and Greg Johnson of North Dakota (91-92-93) No player has been a four-time finalist. Here are the two-time finalists (excluding Emerson and Johnson): Brian Hills, Bowling Green (82-83); Bryan Erickson, Minnesota (82-83); Ron Scott, Michigan State (82-83); Dan Dorion, Western Michigan (84 and 86); Scott Fusco, Harvard (85-86); Gary Emmons, Northern Michigan (86-87); Lane MacDonald, Harvard (87 and 89); Robb Stauber, Minnesota (88-89); Dave Capuano, Maine (88-89); Greg Brown, Boston College (89-90); Kip Miller, Michigan State (89-90); Dave Emma (90-91); Joe Juneau, RPI (90-91); Scott Beattie, Northern Michigan (91-92); Denny Felsner, Michigan (91-92); Jean-Yves Roy, Maine (91-92). Here are the winners, year-by-year: Neal Broten, Minnesota (1981); George McPhee, Bowling Green (1982); Mark Fusco, Harvard (1983); Tom Kurvers, Minn.- Duluth (1984); Bill Watson, Minn.-Duluth (1985); Scott Fusco, Harvard (1986); Tony Hrkac, North Dakota (1987); Robb Stauber, Minnesota (1988); Lane MacDonald, Harvard (1989); Kip Miller, Michigan State (1990); David Emma, Boston College (1991); Scott Pellerin, Maine (1992); Paul Kariya, Maine (1993). I researched a lot of stuff on the Hobey last summer and have winners year by year, multiple-year finalists, year by year finalists, and finalists by school for the award's entire history. Justin
