Friday night at Bright was a rather dull affair between the Red Raiders and the Crimson. Colgate came out fast at the start of each period, but unfortunately fizzled. Harvard definitely had something else on their minds. The Crimson scored first on a power play goal by Brian Farrell (Sean McCann, Steve Martins). Farrell's slot shot came after some quick passing. There seemed to be a naturally occuring point rotation on the Harvard power play as for the first period the players at the points had switch positions, thus given themselves the inside angle for shooting. I liked this better shooting angle, but it faded into the ether. Martins (Ashlin Halfnight, Lou Body) made it 2-0 on another power play goal. The chance occured off a quick break in right after the ensuing face-off. In the second period, Colgate got on the board when Chris DeProfio (Sam Raffoul, Mike Harder) finished off a nice break down the left wing boards with a shot stick side. McCann (Martins, Cory Gustafson) gunned in Harvard's third goal when he recieved a nice pass in the high slot. In the third period Gustafson (Body, Tom Holmes) was able to put his backhander high into the net after a blast from the point left a big rebound. Colgate used a dump and chase offense against the Crimson. At times they had real good speed, but were unable to sustain that effort on Friday night. I thought the line of Harder, DeProfio and Raffoul was a real smart line. They used the puck and each other well. I also liked the play of Ron Fogarty who showed some good speed on his wing. Jack McIntosh was probably their best defender. He always seemed on top of the play. Harvard played a casual game. The play of defenders McCann, Body, and Derek Maguire kept the Crimson ahead in this match. They are the strength and energy of the team. Their lead and intelligent play is what let's Harvard win games. Aaron Israel played a very strong game in goal. He made several key saves and when he did give up a rebound was ready for the second shot. Right now he is on his game. Chris Baird has been playing a good, heads up game. His smart positioning on wing was been a highlight. Tom Holmes and Jason Karmanos were both, at times, skating with fire. Their spirited play has added to the Crimson attack. Holmes looks fine after being scoped only three weeks ago! Ashlin Halfnight gave us a few loops and whirls to try to lift the Crimson play. Overall though, it just wasn't much of a game. One side note: the experiment of putting the PA speakers higher in roof at Bright failed. Before it was had to hear them, now it is nearing the impossible. _____________ / good shooting rhun _____________/
