For whatever it's worth, Joe Blake and his partner (Wildcat hockey radio broadcasters) were as emphatic about the correctness of the "noncall" on Northern's second goal as the Wisconsin 'casters evidently were "livid." Joe and friend said the player (Mike Harding, I believe) was checked into the Wisconsin goalie and was trying to get away from him after they tangled, not holding him down. Joe et al said "The Wisconsin fans are booing, but there's no way Harding should be penalized or the goal disallowed . . . there was clearly nothing in the way of intentional (interference) going on . . " Blake and his partner did give Jason Hehr a lot of credit for realizing the brief opportunity he had while the net was open and one-timing his shot from the blue line instead of taking more time to set it up. Gee . . . why aren't I surprised about the difference in the views of the two broadcasting teams? Thanks to Steve Manning for a very complete and unbiased report on the games at the Showdown. I agree with your conclusions about the Badgers and Wildcats (you almost have ME calling NMU "Huskies" now!) and their strengths at this point. Incidentally, Blake correctly reported what Steve M. and others have noted about the one Badger goal--he said it was a centering pass from behind the NMU net which struck the back of Wildcat goalie Dieter Kochan's leg and rebounded into the goal. ********************************************************************** * Steve Christopher, NMU [log in to unmask] * * CCHA League Champions, 1979-80/1980-81 **** * * CCHA Playoff Champions, 1979-80/1980-81 * * * * WCHA League Champions, 1990-91 * GO * * * WCHA Playoff Champions, 1988-89/1990-91/1991-92 * * * * NCAA Division I National Runnerups 1979-80 * 'CATS! * * * NCAA Division I Final Four 1980-81 * * * * NCAA Division I National Champions, 1990-91 * * * * NCAA Division I Final Eight 1991-92/1992-93 **** * **********************************************************************
