Some tidbits from today's (1/13/94) Star-Tribune: From the "Briefly" section, which has the blanket attribution "From News Services": Otto Breitenbach announced his resignation as Western Collegiate Hockey Association commissioner, effective July 1. And from the "Minnesota scene" section: Gophers sophomore defenseman Charlie Wasley will undergo arthroscopic surgery today to determine the extent of a knee injury he suffered in Sunday's 4-3 hockey victory over Wisconsin. He will miss this weekend's games against Michigan Tech. <end quoted stuff> Just what the Gophers need, ANOTHER injury, and to a defenseman, too. I haven't heard anything, but I assume (well, no, I hope) the injury that kept Chris McAlpine out of the Sunday game (and much of the Saturday game) against Wisconsin won't keep him out of this weekend's series. Here's another college hockey note from the "Minnesota scene" section: Ferris State University defenseman John Gruden, of Hastings, scored four goals during a 10-6 victory at Notre Dame on Tuesday. The four goals tied the NCAA record for goals in a game by a defenseman, set by Western Michigan's Wayne Gagne in 1985. Gruden also tied school records for goals in a game, points in a game (seven) and points in a period (five). Pam Sweeney Go Gophers!!! [log in to unmask] 1993 WCHA Playoff Champions!!!
