Once CC decided to wake up towards the end of the first period, this was
a very edge of your seat exciting game. DU special teams had a good night,
as their first and third goals were power play goals. Judd Lambert was in
the net tonight for the Tigers and the Pioneers had Sinhue Wallinheimo.
DU struck first as Jason Elders scored just 11 seconds into the first power
play opportunity of the night. CC finally answered with about 7 minutes left
in the first, and the teams went into intermission tied at 1. In the second,
CC scored again to take a 2-1 lead, but DU eventually evened it up and took
the lead on a power play goal to lead 3-2 at the end of the second. I think
it was Jody Jaraczewski who scored for CC in the third to tie up the game
at 3, and then CC later regained the lead at 4-3. DU came back to tie it
again in the last few minutes and it looked like we might be headed into
overtime, but Jason Elders scored the game winning goal at 19:13 to give
DU back the lead. CC pulled Lambert with 31 seconds left in the game, but
they weren't able to get the puck into the net to tie it up. Both goaltenders
had outstanding nights, as they came up with some spectacular saves during
shooting frezies by each team. The officials for both nights were linesman
Tim Swiader and referees Robin Anderson and Brien Ricci. They did a good
job, as not too many penalties were called and things didn't really get out
of hand like they can with rivalries like this. Box score to come tomorrow
or Monday.
