To clear up some questions on who was in the ECAC when: The ECAC began in 1961-62 with 28 teams. Teams were: AIC, Amherst, Army, BC, BU, Bowdoin, Brown, Clarkson, Colby, Colgate, Connecticut, Cornell, Dartmouth, Hamilton, Harvard, Massachusetts, MIT, Merrimack, Middlebury, New Hampshire, Northeastern, Norwich, Princeton, Providence, RPI, St Lawrence, Williams, Yale. In 1963-64, Vermont joined. In 1964-65, 14 teams left as a new ECAC division for small schools was established. Teams that left were: AIC, Amherst, Bowdoin, Colby, Connecticut, Hamilton, Massachusetts, MIT, Merrimack, Middlebury, New Hampshire, Norwich, Vermont, and Williams. After the above schools left, the ECAC was left with 15 teams in 1964-65: Army, BC, BU, Brown, Clarkson, Colgate, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Northeastern, Princeton, Providence, RPI, St Lawrence, and Yale. In 1966-67, New Hampshire joined. In 1967-68, Pennsylvania joined. In 1973-74, Army left, dropping down to DivII. In 1974-75, Vermont joined, moving up from DivII. In 1978-79, Pennsylvania left. In 1979-80, Maine joined, moving up from DivII. The three division setup began. In 1980-81, Army became affiliated as an Independent, moving up from DivII. In 1983-84, Lowell became affiliated as an Independent, moving up from DivII. In 1984-85, BC, BU, Lowell, Maine, New Hampshire, Northeastern, and Providence left to enter Hockey East. Army became sort of full-time, playing one game against each ECAC team that counted in the standings. The three division setup ended. In 1985-86, Army again played one game against each ECAC team that counted in the standings. In 1986-87, Army began playing the full two games against each ECAC team. In 1991-92, Army left, returning to DivI Indep status. Union joined, moving up from DivIII.
