In the RPI-Union game at RPI,Xavier Majic scored an empty-net goal
at 19:58 of the third to put RPI up by 2 goals. Then without ever
having another faceoff or anything the just called the game. I realize
that the odds of either team scoring a goal in the final 2 seconds is
very small, but I was still curious if there is actually a rule that allows
the refs to cut the game short or not.
There was also a somewhat similar incident a few years ago at RPI.
RPI scored and empty-net goal at 19:56 to go up 4-2 on Brown. But at that
game, after that goal RPI fans threw the megaphones onto the ice and the
Brown team simply walked off of the ice. So I could perhaps see why that
game was ended. But I ca't see why they were allowed to avoid the final
faceoff against Union.
