David has asked what the reaction has been to my advice in math classes when I tell my student-athletes that they have an excellent opportunity to get their education even though they may have pro dreams. I have to say that I have never had a negative experience with any of them. As instructors or professors, we are asked to evaluate these student-athletes twice each semester and the results go to the advisors. I believe it is done for only freshmen, although I can't be sure of this. In particular, I have worked with two hockey players, both Canadian, one a star now, and they were especially kind as well as school-oriented. Also an interesting note, when Joby Wright was our varsity men's basketball coach, I had two of his players in class, and I received a letter from him stating that if any of his players missed a class to contact him personally immediately. That shows some caring about education. Also the players themselves have responded positively to me and my attempts to help them learn. Karen Miami University GO SKINS!!!
