I think if Kariya wants to leave for the NHL, that's his decision and does not reflect badly on Maine. I do think that although college may be a stepping stone for a lot of athletes, while they are in school they should take their education seriously, which it sounds like Kariya does. Remember even though some players may view college as a training ground, they are there primarily to get an education (otherwise why bother to have academic requirements??). And I do agree with the person who wrote that these student-athletes are NOT like everyone else in that they are getting full paid scholarships, and some of them do not take their education seriously. (I think that most adults who pay for their school do take it very seriously and sometimes the student-athletes may just need an extra push in the right direction, either by professors or coaches.) Also, in regards to dressing three goalies, here at Miami, I have a difficult time remembering when we DIDN'T dress three. Currently, we have Shulmistre, Deschambeau, and King (sorry about the first two spellings, no hockey info here at school). Karen Miami University GO SKINS!!
