In reply to Mike Machnik on Bill Cleary: I agree with you that Cleary had
his own view of hockey priorities. My comments were mostly intended as an
observation on the current debate--thanks for qualifying them. I think Cleary
sometimes viewed Harvard as an offshoot of Olympics training camps, and I think
his own non-NHL history certainly inflected this (previous coach Cooney Weiland
did coach a Stanley Cup-winning Bruins team). However, this still doesn't
explain to me why it should make a difference if players return to the college
after the Olympics (I know Mike's post was not trying to explain this).
