MSU could only put together a few solid minutes of hockey each period. Forward Steve Suk was perhaps the most unimpressive player of the evening. Suk appeared to be playing in slow- motion for most of the night, never once anticipating where the puck was going to be next. The injury that Jeff mentions was to MSU's #7, Chris Smith. The Lansing State Journal didn't even report on the injury, but my guess would be that he blew a knee. Kudos to Ferris State's Doug Smith, son of fellow HOCKEY-L'er and Michigan State University employee Jim Smith ([log in to unmask]). Doug scored a goal at 8:29 of the second period, and came close to scoring on a 2-on-1 late in the first. There is a very nice, 1/3 page write- up on Doug this morning in the Lansing State Journal.
