Tampa Bay traded former Black Bear defenceman Bob Beers to Edmonton yesterday for defenceman Chris Joseph, in a deal designed to "shake up" the team, especially their power play. Maine graduates haven't had long tenures down here, as Dave Capuano lasted less than a season (mostly in the IHL) before being sent to San Jose (who subsequently sent him to Boston a couple of weeks ago - he's now playing for Providence in the IHL). St. Louis assigned Jim Montgomery to Peoria yesterday. BTW, for all of you Tim Bergland fans out there, he's been called up for the second time this season and is expected to play against Quebec tonight. (The first time was on "emergency recall" due to injuries. He scored on his first or second shift, but had to go back once the injured players returned. The St. Pete Times did not state whether this recall was under similar terms, but since it followed a sentence about an injury to Brian Bradley, I think we can conclude that this'll end up being just another 1-2 game stint.) *-------------------------------------------------------------------* | Andrew T.
