The College Hockey Discussion List Poll for October 27, 1993:

Teams were given 15 points for a first-place vote, 14 for a second-place
vote, and so on down to 1 point for a fifteenth-place vote. Total first-
place votes are in parentheses.

The biggest series of the week in terms of impact on the HOCKEY-L poll was,
not surprisingly, the Minnesota-Colorado College tilt. As a result of
Colorado's sweep, the Tigers make an appearance on the composite this week
after not getting a single vote in the preseason poll. Meanwhile, the
Gophers plunged right out of the Top 15.

Here's this week's East-West split. As usual, there's a bit of controversy,
this time over whether BU (East) or Wisconsin (West) deserves the #2 spot
behind the Lakers. Interestingly, Colorado College's performance against
Minnesota seems to have carried more weight with the Eastern voters than the
Western voters (at least in this small sampling...)

     Eastern responses: Western responses:

And here's a composite of the HOCKEY-L poll and the three media polls I saw
this week. I included the College Hockey Journal's rankings, even though
they came out before last weekend's games. Also note that in the CHJ and
College Hockey USA rankings, the numbers in parentheses indicate teams
listed in "Others receiving votes" -- I'm counting those to extend the polls
to a Top 15 like the HOCKEY-L poll (aside to John H: Personally, I like a
Top 15 poll 'cause it adds to the controversy come tournament time :-)

For newcomers who haven't seen the Tadpoll yet, it uses the above poll
results as voters. As in the HOCKEY-L poll, a team receives 15 points for
each first-place vote, 14 points for each second-place vote, and so on down
to one point for a fifteenth-place vote. The half-points below are because
of tie votes in the various polls. Also note that Minnesota-Duluth and
Denver received votes from the College Hockey USA poll (12th and a tie for
13th, respectively), which is why they are in the Tadpoll despite not
appearing in the composite above.

     Tadpoll:

     1. Lake Superior (4) 60
     2. Boston University 54
          Wisconsin 54
     4. RPI 45.5
     5. Maine 45
     6. Michigan 38
     7. Michigan State 36
     8. Harvard 35
     9. Michigan Tech 26.5
     10. Miami 19.5
     11. Clarkson 14.5
     12. Northern Michigan 13.5
     13. Minnesota-Duluth 4

     15. Denver 2.5
          New Hampshire 2.5

If you think this is impressive, just wait'll the computer ratings come out
and I start putting together Tad-rate :-)
