Alex Relyea asks: > Why is it that all the women in professional hockey, or any men's > professional sports for that matter, are goalies? It would seem to me > that goalie is one of the most physically demanding positions to play in > all of sports, and that the powers that be would be more eager to let women > play punter, or something. Any ideas? Although one must be a terrific athlete to be a goalie, size, strength, and the ability to take a pounding are not as important. Since women tend to be smaller with definitely less muscle mass, they face an almost impossible task in competing at the non-goalie positions. At goalie, one must be quick, with great reflexes and balance. Most of the characteristics that make up a great goalie do NOT exclude women. ****************************************************** Dave Hendrickson [log in to unmask] A Hockey Get-A-Lifer and Proud Of It GO BROONS!!!
