The 19th annual Hockey Night in Boston Summer Tournament is about to get underway, and there'll be lots of hockey to see for local area fans. Games will be held every single day at Merrimack's Volpe Complex from July 31-August 21. Six games will be played each Saturday and Sunday, with 2 or 3 games scheduled for each weekday night. A total of 90 games are scheduled with 400 players taking part on 17 teams. Teams for the tourney are: Northern New England, Sophomore All-Stars, New York, Eastern, Mid-Atlantic, Mid-West, Great Lakes, Mass-West, Greater Boston, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Middlesex, North, South, Suburban, Central, and New Brunswick. The tourney is more of a showcase than anything else, and not all teams will be present for the entire affair. For example, New Brunswick doesn't roll into town until August 17th, and Great Lakes will only be around from July 31-August 4. Among players who have played in the tourney in the past are Brian Leetch, Shawn McEachern, Tony Amonte, and Jeremy Roenick. Players pay about $400 to be able to participate, and many are looking to catch the eye of the many college and pro scouts who will be present. 32 HNiB alums were chosen in the 1993 NHL draft, with 12 going in the top 5 rounds. All info was taken from a 7/29/93 Lawrence Eagle-Tribune article written by Hector Longo. The Tribune published the entire game schedule which is too long to type in, but basically the weekday schedule runs from either 4 or 6:15 pm till about 10:30 pm, and on weekends games run from either 9 or 11 am till 10-10:30 pm. --- Mike Machnik [log in to unmask] [log in to unmask] Color Voice of the Merrimack Warriors *HMN* 11/13/93 (All opinions expressed above are strictly those of the poster.)
