Since the NHL Entry Draft is on Saturday, thought I'd supply you folks with a preview of who might be drafted and who might not be from the RPI Engineers. Tim Regan: A lot of scouts like his quickness and ability to hustle. His biggest weak point is that he is only 5'8" and 170lbs. But the determination and gritty play make him one to look for. Projection: 8th - 12th round Jon Pirrong: He has size, though some scouts would like him to be just a bit taller and heavier since he is a defenseman. Has evolved over the past year into a defenseman with offensive capability. Has shown he can step up in the offensive zone. His biggest weak link is that a lot of scouts deem him to be very uncoachable. There is a perception that Pirrong can be a problem with attitude and mental adjustment. Projection: 10th-12th round Bryan Richardson: The runner-up in the voting for ECAC Rookie of the Year is not considered top be a draft prospect at all. Many people believe that while he has guts and a puck sense, he can not grow anymore, therefore, he is not considered a prospect to be drafted. He had a brilliant freshman year, and should be a force to reckon with in future seasons, but does not look to be drafted. Projection: Not picked Mike Tamburro: Not given much of a chance to shine last year with Neil Little playing ahead of him. Has a good puck sense, but does not look to be drafted. Projection: Not picked Chris Kiley: 21st man on the roster all season long. Projection: Not picked Patrick Rochon: Not eligible for the draft Jeff O'Connor: Scouts have not really looked at Jeff. Has skills, but not considered an NHL prospect. Projection: Not picked Jeff Brick: See Jeff O'Connor Projection: Not picked So the way it shakes out is that 1 Engineer should be drafted, that being Regan, with the possibility of Pirrong being picked. And the surprise is that Richardson is not considered a prospect to be picked. BASEBALL NEWS: Oh yeah, if you are interested, Doug Drumm, the first Engineer ever drafted by a major league team, is currently in Washington State after signing with the SF Giants, and is playing short A ball. ***************************************************************************** * Jayson Moy * One of the Voices of Rensselaer Engineer * * [log in to unmask] * Hockey, Baseball, and Football on * * * 91.5FM WRPI, Troy * *****************************************************************************
