Ward is entering his senior season at Michigan. His career totals are
20-31--51 and 263 PIM in 118 games. This move sheds some light on where
Ward will be in 1993-94. It's now almost certain that he has played his
last game as a Wolverine. The Canadian Olympic Team is still an option,
but the most likely scenario is a stint at Adirondack before joining the
Red Wings later in the season. Of course, he could pull a Dallas Drake
and make the Wings during training camp.

This leaves Michigan with only four returning defensemen from the nation's
leading defense. Tim Hogan is the most experienced, with 56 career games.
