this is going to be an abbreviated version of ex collegians referring to players on teams I follow. ADIRONDACK RED WINGS (AHL) CHRIS TANCILL (Wisconsin). Tancill is playing great hockey for the Wings. Tancill broke the team record for goals and had the second highest single season points total in team history despite missing about a dozen games (102 points-57 goals-both approx). He is the team's sniper and should make a repeat appearance on the AHL's first team all-stars MIKE CASSELMAN (Clarkson). Casselman didn't play much for most of the season (well, he didn't play regularly) but he's made the most of his shot down the stretch. Casselman has ~45 points in ~55 games. Not bad considering he only had about 20 points in 35 games. He's been recently put on the same line as Tancill and that has certainly helped. JOE FREDERICK (Northern Michigan). Frederick just joined the team in recent weeks but has been a much needed improvement to the Wings offense. In one of his first games, Frederick tallied 3 assists in a rout of New Haven Senators this week. I believe he scored his first pro goal on Friday. BOSTON BRUINS BRYAN SMOLINSKI (Mich St). Smolinski has had a fabulous week with the Bruins. On Tuesday against Quebec, he had a trio of assists. He had a few points yesterday against Montreal including his first pro goal. He has looked REALLY good out there. Very impressive. Let's just say the he looks like he belongs in the NHL. Good move by Harry Sinden. NEW HAVEN SENATORS (AHL) DARREN MADELEY (LSSU). Madeley has been a godsend for the Senators. His play was key towards the Sens late push towards a playoff spot (which fell short). Madeley has faced the proverbial firing squad (behind the Sens "defense") and has acquitted himself nicely. His stats are pretty good (~3.30 GAA, .910 sv %) but they are even better when considering the team he plays for. Madeley will probably finish in second for the AHL's rookie of the year award (Garrett Trophy) but the probable winner, Corey Hirsch, played behind a rocksolid defense and Penguin-esque offense. Madeley has certainly been the most valuable goalie in the league and will prob pick up MVP votes. (BTW, I don't follow the Sens but Madeley deserves mentioning). ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ + Bri Farenell [log in to unmask] + + AHL and ECAC contact for rec.sport.hockey Go USA Hockey! + + Adirondack Red Wings, Calder Cup Champs: '81 '86 '89 '92 + + Clarkson Hockey, ECAC Tournament Champs: '66 '91 '93 + + Glens Falls High Hockey, NY Division II State Champs: '90 '91 + + Join the AHL mailing list: [log in to unmask] + + CONGRATS TO THE BOSTON BRUINS, 1992-93 ADAMS DIVISION CHAMPIONS + ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
