First of all, congratulations to the Black Bears and to the State of Maine. How'd you like Bob Norton's apotheosis of the National Champs ("from Kittery to ....")?? Bob left no doubt for whom he was rooting. Now for a couple of questions. First of all, about that corssbar shot in the final minute ... I've played my tape over and over again, and it still looks to me as if the puck went in. It disappeared behind the crossbar, or seemed to .... after the game, Jeff Jackson said something like, "We thought that one shot was `in,' but I guess it wasn't." Hmmm ... I guess since we haven't heard anything about it from the Lake State fans on the list, everyone feels it was definitely a non-goal. Second question: Tom Mees alluded to the "fact" that many Division I coaches around the country "don't like Shawn Walsh," to which Bob Norton replied that "A lot of that is jealousy." Is Mees's comment factual? If so, why is it that folks don't like Shawn? He seems perfectly reasonable in interviews -- perhaps a little cocky. Do the players like him? They certainly seem to put out for him in the games. Also, in answer to Joel Graber's question, I'd always thought that a natural hat trick (aka a pure hat trick) was just 3 goals in a row by the same player (with the only alternative definition being 3 goals in a row by the same player **in the same period**).
